Mary’s Song of Praise

Posted: December 1, 2010 in Uncategorized

Phew. I love it when the Spirit prompts and then is faithful (ok, truthfully He always is. ‘Tis I who am not always faithful!). This is a lyrical attempt at capturing the essence of Mary’s Praise or prayer or song, when she’s with Elizabeth who is also with child (John the Baptist). Right out of Luke 1:46-55)

I will still be noodling on the words and will work to get a better track, but needed to share this right now.

Thin Place

Ah. A Thin Place. We’ve all been there. The place where God is so close you can feel Him, touch Him. Experience His presence. Maybe a beautiful sunrise. Or sunset. Or a wedding. A funeral. A birth. In worship. An intimate relationship. Or communion. That’s what this is about. A pleasure to sing.

Have Your Way

This is a perfect song for Lent. The whole season. A song of surrender. I wish this recording was a bit faster. And as of this posting, the tracks haven’t been mastered (and my lead vocal is in need of some pitch correction). But the song is a blessing to me. I hope it is for you, too.

Mercy Home

Addison recorded this on her CD in 2002 (really? geez).  It got some airplay and even charted in Europe. Turns out “You Sing To Me” ended with greater staying power on-air. I still love this as her debut “single”. Originally, the song was written to our congregation to encourage giving in a monthly fund for outreach – our Mercy fund. Thanks to Phillip Sandifer for solid production talent including his harmonies.

Running for the Rock

I LOVE this song. I can’t wait to finish it in the studio. The idea was simple: what was it like to be a disciple (notably Peter or John) and hear Mary tell them “they’ve taken our Lord” from the tomb. Can you imagine the pace they set heading for the grave? And then, the fun part was imagining how fast they took off to tell others once they’d seen the tomb empty.

A song of redemption for someone very close. Addison does a nice job in this live recording at Third Sunday at Westlake Hills Presbyterian. Thanks to band of Eric Dorris, Alan Vassberg, Matthew Fletcher, Hunter Dryden (oh, and I even got to play on this…how rare!)

Deep Down Deliverance

Ever feel like you’re wrestling with God? Or that you’re running the opposite way He intends for you? That’s what this song’s about. Follows the story of Jona.
